What Made My Month (August 2018)

I don’t know about you but isn’t August quite an eventful month? Parang ang daming ganap. Parang every weekend umaalis ako ng bahay. Haha. Even online, I’ve been so busy responding to personal messages and inquiries about my art and reading convos through GCs. Kaso yun. Nakakapagod. Mentally talagang ugh! As in. Bumigay ako sa last week ng August.

But, nevertheless, I still immensely enjoyed August. I truly did! So let’s list down the things which made my month!

1. Noticed by Orla

One morning, I woke up to the IG notification that Orla Gartland tagged my art account on her post. She reposted my artwork of her! For your fanart to be recognized by the subject is just… *sighs dreamily* I can’t even! And if you don’t know who Orla is, she is this really amazing musician. Her talent and skills in music is just massive! But she isn’t as widely recognized as she deserves to be. I know that in time she will be applauded big time for her artistry!

And yes, this is shameless plugging but my Instagram account is artsyfartsylulu. Please follow me! Haha!

2. TFIOB 1st Anniversary

August 16 is the anniversary of The Fault in Our Blogs (TFIOB) which is this blogging community formed through WordPress. We had an advance celebration of sort the weekend before the anniversary date. I barely had any sleep that weekend but my heart was filled with so much emotions.

This is my message to TFIOB members. Posted it on my IG but posting it here now.

This is the community which helped me so much during my lowest of days sometime around last year. I was jobless and the continuous rejections I got from job-searching didn’t help. I was dealing with anxiety (long before I even resigned from my former job) and it just got worse. I was not really okay. Just the mere act of waking up in the morning felt like a chore. And I felt like such a disappointment. And even though I know that my family would NEVER throw it on my face, I started withdrawing from them. I distanced myself from everyone. I even deactivated most of my socmed accounts for months. I just really didn’t want to deal with people in general.

That was when I started making art everyday. That became my outlet. But it felt like I needed to do something else. Especially on days when even art is not my friend. It was around June when I decided to really write again. It was so cathartic to just write everything and share my thoughts and my feelings even if I know that no one’s actually reading them. But that was where I got it wrong. Because there are people who are actually reading the things that I wrote.

And they are not silent readers. Their constant feedback/ comments on my blogposts and the support they showed was beyond what I expected from a blogging community. That even though we were all behind the screens of our own devices, genuine empathy slips through it. Slowly, I started returning the favor. I’ve always been a silent reader but I realized that you can make someone’s day by showing appreciation on what they share. And with that regular exchanging of comments, something special was formed. When I started blogging at WordPress, I never expected that I would find a community in it. But I didn’t only find a blogging community. I found friends in them.

Happy Anniversary TFIOB! I am so gratified that we all found each other! Love you all!

Thank you TFIOB!

3. Walk the Moon Live at Market Market

It was July when I was listening to “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon on my way to Church and then I started imagining being in their concert. I told myself that I would probably go wild if they start performing that song (Shut Up and Dance) because that is one of my all-time favorites. You guys know how it’s such a jam.

And then, a few days later, I found out that they were going to have a show at Market Market. Which is just around the area where I was staying. I really wanted to come but my work schedule was kind of in the way. Thank God, I was scheduled in Mandaluyong on Tuesdays so even though I totally forgot about the show, I was still able to catch it. And when I say I forgot about it, I really did forget all about it. It just so happened that I passed by Market Market on my way home. It didn’t automatically registered to me when I saw many people around the Activity Area but when it hit me, I literally sprinted to the second floor. Haha! And Oh Lord! They are so effin’ good! Even if I only know a handful of their songs I still enjoyed it very much.

AND… I was able to watch them perform “Shut Up and Dance”.

I wanted to go “walwal” but the people around me were so boring. I wish I was by the stage where people were jumping and dancing all around. Nagjump-jump nga lang ako ng konti napatingin na sakin yung mga katabi ko. Sobrang baduy. I tried my best to contain myself but my love for their songs “Shut Up and Dance” and “Anna Sun” won. And because I couldn’t dance my heart out (because dyahe) I decided to just sing my heart out because it’s less dyahe! It still felt good! Aaaah! I was so happy!

4. #10YearsOfCrush

David Archuleta celebrated the 10th year anniversary since he released his debut song “Crush”. It was a week-long celebration and he had a bunch of “pakulo” to celebrate it with his fans. Then he released a stripped version of the song Crush at the end of that week which is so good. Proud to be a forever fan of BB Archie. A decade of love for the then cute young boy who’s now a dashing young man. No regrets!

5. Ang Huling El Bimbo

Yep! I am not going to shut up about “Ang Huling El Bimbo” just yet. They are on their final week and I really wish that I have the resources to watch it again but alas! I couldn’t. So yeah! The show really did made my month. And not only the show but the young cast as well. In my previous post, if you haven’t seen it yet, I actually painted them. They saw the WIP before and they really appreciated it. They even replied to my IG story so that’s really cool of them.

And oh here’s my Boo! Haha!

6. My Best Friend is Getting Married!

Yep! My best friend is getting married. And I so knew it. I felt that she’s going to get engaged this year and I was not mistaken! Hahaha! I’m so happy for her. Even though I haven’t met the husband-to-be yet. They are both in Dubai so I never really had a chance to meet him but I know that my best friend is happy with him. Well, the month of August is a marriage proposal filled month. Aside from my best friend, two pairs of my College batchmates also got engaged this month. Ah! Such a lovely month for love!

So those are the things which made my August. I hope you had an amazing month. Mine wasn’t all fun actually. I might write about that for my next post but this is how I wanted to end my every month.

In a positive note.

Anyway, are you guys excited to hear Jose Mari Chan soon? Well, I am so excited just so you know. It’s my favorite time of the year! Just thinking about it is giving me good vibes already. Aaaah! Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. Awe, that’s amazing that Orla mentioned you on her IG! ♡ You deserve the recognition, for sure!

The photo of you and your “boo” is adorable. The cardboard cutout is so lifelike, haha.

Congrats to your bestie & other mates on their marriage proposals! That means fun weddings for you to attend in the future!

I’m glad you were able to end your month a positive note but sad to hear that there were some non-fun things that happened. 😦 Happy September, Krishel! Hope you have a wonderful month! ♡

      1. Haha. Totoo ga! Ang sarap sana manuod ng manuod ng mga play, ang dami kasi nung August na puro Filipino originals kaso kay mahal naman ng ticket.
