Art Dump: August 2018

August being the “Buwan ng Wika” (or the National Language Month) here in the Philippines calls for another Filipino Faces Series so that is just what I did. I was thinking whose faces I would paint and we were on the second week of the month already when I realized that I still didn’t have any idea who to paint.

And then, I happened to watch the “Ang Huling El Bimbo”, which is an original Filipino musical play and I just thought, why not paint the four main characters from the play? And so I chose to paint the young cast from the play.

This is Tanya Manalang who portrayed the character of Joy. She is a theater actress and singer. Aside from her stint on the fifth rerun of “Rak of Aegis”, she also performed as an alternate Kim on West End’s “Miss Saigon”.

This is Reb Atadero who portrayed the character of the rich kid who eventually became an activist, Hector. Being in theatre for years, “The Boston” and “The Woman in Black” are just some of the shows where he had been seen.

Topper Fabregas is the one who portrayed the character of the closeted homosexual Anthony or AJ. He is an actor and a director. He is known for being the director of the “Blackbird” Manila play.

Boo Gabunada portrayed the character of the naive probinsyano scholar Emman. He is known for his stints in “Mula sa Buwan” and Dulaang UP’s “Bagong Cristo”.

I’m still thinking of joining Art Whale Ph‘s advocacy of painting Filipino faces called Paint Your People PH. Can you give me suggestions on Filipino faces I could paint? Any iconic Filipinos you can suggest?

All artworks above were made in Canson XL Aquarelle paper using Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolours.
