Art Dump: June 2018

Hello magical human beings!

June was, let’s say, some kind of a blur. In between processing requirements for my new work and getting sick and finishing all my work here at the job I am about to leave, the month passed by real quick.

It’s a good thing that I was still able to squeeze some time for Art. Yey! I played around a lot and honestly, I don’t like my outputs. They all didn’t up the way I was planning to but this is why I have to constantly create and experiment. So that I can find out what works and what doesn’t. And I don’t have to necessarily like everything that I do, right? It’s all part of the process. And I need to trust the process.

Here are some of the artworks I made this month.

Acrylic on 12″x16″ Canvas

This was not exactly how I pictured it in my head. But yeah, this is my interpretation of the May Sky. I really wanted an impasto kind of painting but I didn’t know what to make use of my palette knife so I just swished it all around and dabbed it on a semi-wet paint which is already on the canvas. I don’t know what happened! Haha.

I’m thinking of making more for a May Sky series but canvases don’t come cheap. Huhu. Hopefully, now that I am going to start with my new work, I can now save up for some art materials. I think I’ll have more time for art because I am going to have Saturdays and Sundays off. But still, we’ll see. We’ll see.

Stendhal Semi-Rough | Winsor and Newton Cotman

An attempt at illustration work. That was not supposed to be the background. I was planning the “gasgas” galaxy-thingy for it but I added some medium to my acrylic that made it all stringy. I still used a reference photo because I’m still dependent on that and I just kind of stylized it to what I prefer it to look like. I actually like that part.

I tried to sketch Brandon Woelfel freehand and proceeded to paint it. I really to need to work on my proportions. I almost totally messed it up. I also think that I used the wrong side of the paper. I’m not sure.

Brandon Woelfel by the way is a Photography King!!! Check out his Instagram (brandonwoelfel) and be sucked into his dreamy portraits with all its fairy lights and neon lights and ambient lights and smoke bombs and glitters and prisms. His “Tap to Edit” highlight gives me life.

I tried another freehand sketch portrait (with reference still) and it ended up with a lopsided jaw. And yep, I had to throw a few bucks away so I could paint in a coffee shop because I couldn’t paint in the boarding house. Is it worth it? Hmmm, I think so.

I did not make any tight realistic portraits this month. Exploring the loose style more. And a bit of illustrative work. Sorry, I’m trying to find out what style suits me and what style I prefer so expect inconsistency in the kind of art that I post. Please bear with me as I embark on this pursuit of happiness. Haha.

Also, should I join World Watercolor Group Challenge this coming July?
